Turtles

Last week one of our turtles (Belle/Rebel/Zach)came out of hibernation. (The kids couldn't agree on one name for each turtle so they each picked names for them and call them by those names. Cami named them Aurora and Belle. Carter named them Zach and Cody and Cade named them Cougar and Rebel). The kids were so excited, especially Cami. The second turtle was still hibernating in the back of the habitat. Well, after being out and active all week, yesterday we discovered the turtle had died and the second turtle had come out of hibernation. We called the Tortiose Rescue Center and talked with a lady who said it's common for hatchlings to emerge in the spring and then die shortly after, there is no known cause. We are hoping the second turtle will be okay. The kids were upset, especially Cade. Cami insists it's not dead, it just went back to sleep. I thought turtles would be the easiest pet ever, they sleep 6 months out of the year, there is no cleanup, they don't make any noise, pretty much no work. Obviously we are not great pet people.
