Really?

As a mother of boys I've grown accustom to some things I must frequently say to them such as: change your socks, tuck in your shirt, pull your pants up, chew your food, use your silverware not your fingers, say excuse me, get a tissue, etc. However, there is a new saying that I'm not proud to admit I must now add to my growing repertoire. It involves showering. A daily shower, in my opinion is a must for my boys. They don't seem to think so. We have a nightly argument when told to go shower because they claim aren't dirty or smelly, they only went to school, played outside, and went to football/soccer practice today, they certainly don't need a shower! Whatever! Being the mom, I always win this fight and so off to the shower they go. They, (and I'm not sure which one came up this wonderful idea but both are guilty of it) seem to think they can outsmart me and recently have started their own new routine. This consists of:

  • going into the bathroom and locking the door
  • getting undressed and turning on the shower
  • using the squirt bottle to squirt down their hair
  • hanging out for awhile while drawing pictures on the mirror in the steam
  • turning off the shower
  • getting dressed and coming out, claiming to have showered and be squeaky clean yet only having damp hair in the very front while still dry in the back and still smelling very much like a stinky boy!
So now when asking them to shower I must add: "And get INSIDE the shower and use SOAP on your body and SHAMPOO on your hair!!" Sadly I must admit I must also tell them " Brush your teeth ... and USE TOOTHPASTE!" I mean come on, REALLY? If you are going to go through all the trouble to brush your teeth or get undressed and squirt your hair why not just do it correctly? Give me a break!

Erin, I feel your pain. I have this same discussion with Jacob all the time. He has not gotten quite as tricky as your boys yet, but I still have to nag him to do all those things you'd think would be a given, right? Boys. Meanwhile, my girls want to take a bath or a shower ALL the time.

Kind of like the once used claim by a boy (at the time) I know who told me, my teacher only said I have to do a book report, she never said I had to read the book!! Hmm, must be a male thing! Seriously though, the day will come far too soon when showering will be an important thing! And along with it, the rest of the experience of boys growing up!

first off, I have no idea who that boy is in mom's comment... and secondly... at least your boys are very creative and resourceful!

HAHAHAHAHA!!!!! At least I'm not the only one who has that problem! I have to say the exact same thing daily! At least your boys get their hair wet and turn on the water, David sits on the toilet for half hour or longer and says he's done showering!

I remember all to well when we couldnt get Uncle Tom out of the tub, to same scenerio you gave, and then he really discovered girls and he would shower 2-3 times a day. I told my boys no shower no eat. I would also smell them after their shower. They all try to get away with it. My boys had Uncle Joe to contend with and it never was an issue again.
KUDOS for being such a great MOM

HAHAHAHA I love this post. Cason and Cael still like getting cleaned up. But there are days I have to remind Austin. Good luck.
